Farewell to Carmel Kerin
 
 
After 30 years of committed service, Carmel Kerin the Presiding Member of the Board has stepped down from the role. Carmel was first appointed to the Board in 1987 by then Minister of Education, the Hon. Greg Crafter and over the ensuing years played a critical role in the development of the Board into the proficient regulatory body it is today. Throughout her time as Presiding Member, Carmel’s priority was to ensure the quality and professionalism of all South Australian teachers.
 
Carmel holds a Bachelor of Laws from Adelaide University and it was in this capacity that she chaired numerous formal proceedings and admission hearings on behalf of the Board. Building on both her sound knowledge and experience of administrative law, the hallmark of her leadership was ensuring the principles of natural justice and equity for all parties was vigilantly observed. Carmel’s steadfast vision for the Board ensured that South Australia is a leader in the regulation of the teaching profession within Australia, earning the respect of both teachers and the legal profession.
Carmel has given her experience and expertise to various agencies including the Australia and New Zealand Education Law Association, the Australasian Teacher Regulatory Authorities, the International Forum for Teacher Regulatory Authorities, the Child Protection Council of SA, McKinnon Parade Children’s Centre and Mercedes College.
On behalf of all South Australian teachers, the Board wishes to thank Carmel for her 30 years of tireless and dedicated service and wish her well in her future roles.

Autism SA workshops

The Australian Literacy Educator’s Association SA presents Spelling it Out: How words work and how to teach them. Facilitated by Misty Adoniou, University of Canberra, the workshop will investigate multiple pathways to support learners understand how words work in English and how to spell them. The 2017 Institute of Educational Assessors conference is being held on Friday 9 June, 8:30m-3:00pm at the EDC 4 Milner Street, Hindmarsh, $130.
