Applying for Teacher Registration

Anyone seeking employment as a teacher within South Australia must be registered with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia.

Teacher graduates undertaking Australian teacher education qualifications

Applicants who are due to complete an approved Australian teacher education program will be required to:

• Lodge an Application for Teacher Registration and provide certified supporting documents as required
• Provide a certified copy of a certificate of completion for a full day (7-hour) Mandatory Notification Training course (completed in South Australia)
• Consent to a National Criminal History Record Check to be undertaken by the Board
• Provide a certified copy of an overseas criminal history record check if applicable
• Provide academic record/s and/or transcript/s showing all subjects studied with grades and any subjects still to be completed
• Provide payment of the appropriate fees

Applicants holding Australian teacher education qualifications

Applicants who currently hold an Australian teacher education award will be required to:

• Lodge an Application for Teacher Registration and provide certified supporting documents as required
• Provide a certified copy of a certificate of completion for a full day (7-hour) Mandatory Notification Training course (completed in South Australia)
• Consent to a National Criminal History Record Check to be undertaken by the Board
• Provide a certified copy of an overseas criminal history record check if applicable
• Provide certified copies of all academic transcripts of completed higher education awards, including teacher education awards
• Provide payment of the appropriate fees

Applicants holding overseas teacher education qualifications

Applicants who currently hold an overseas teacher education award will be required to apply for an Assessment of Qualifications to determine if they meet the minimum prescribed qualifications requirements.

Applicants will be notified in writing by the Board if their qualifications meet the prescribed minimum requirements and will then be eligible to apply for teacher registration. Applicants will be required to:

• Lodge an Application for Teacher Registration and provide certified supporting documents as required
• Provide a certified copy of a certificate of completion for a full day (7-hour) Mandatory Notification Training course (completed in South Australia)
• Consent to a National Criminal History Record Check to be undertaken by the Board
• Provide a certified copy of an overseas criminal history record check if applicable
• Provide certified copies of all academic transcripts of completed higher education awards, including teacher education awards
• Provide payment of the appropriate fees

Applicants previously registered as a teacher in South Australia

Applicants previously registered as a teacher in South Australia that wish to reapply for registration will be required to:

• Lodge an Application for Teacher Registration and provide certified supporting documents as required
• Provide a certified copy of a certificate of completion for a full day (7-hour) Mandatory Notification Training course (completed in South Australia)
• Consent to a National Criminal History Record Check to be undertaken by the Board
• Provide a certified copy of an overseas criminal history record check if applicable
• Provide certified copies of all academic transcripts of completed higher education awards, including teacher education awards
• Provide payment of the appropriate fees
