Notification of Offences to Employers

Pursuant to Section 52 if the Registrar becomes aware that a person who is, or who has been, registered as a teacher has been charged with or convicted of offences that in the opinion of the Registrar raises serious concerns about the persons fitness to be, or continue to be, registered as a teacher the Registrar must give details of the matter to the persons employer if the person is a practising teacher. Further the Chief Executives of the Department of Education and Children’s Services, Catholic Education Office and the Independent Schools of South Australia Incorporated must also be informed. The Registrar must also notify the person concerned that this action is being undertaken.

The Registrar must also give notice of a withdrawal or acquittal to the persons employer and the Chief Executives of the Department of Education and Children’s Services, Catholic Education Office and the Independent Schools of South Australia Incorporated if the details are in relation to a person being charged with an offence and the offence is subsequently withdrawn or the person is acquitted.
