Registration Buzz is the new fortnightly news brief published by the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia for registered teachers. It is emailed every fortnight to teachers on our register with an email address.

The new Registrar of the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia, Dr Peter Lind, brings a wealth of both practical and academic experience throughout the education sector to this role. He was Director of the New Zealand Teachers Council for the past 10 years and prior to that the Director of Teacher Education at Massey University.

A trained teacher, Peter has been a primary school principal and lectured in physical education. His interest in sport and physical education is reflected in a host of activities, such as having been fitness trainer for a range of provincial rugby teams including the New Zealand women's rugby team, the Blackferns.

Some teachers have expressed concern to the Board about possible time delays in the enhanced screening process for renewal of registration. Don’t panic!

It is true that the Board considers relevant child protection information obtained from Families SA as one of several measures to assist in the assessment of fitness and propriety for registration (including renewal) as a teacher. This process is conducted by the Board direct with Families SA and is independent of the DCSI Working with Children Checks process.

If you are due to renew your registration this year, we encourage you to return the completed application form with payment promptly. The Board is confident your renewal application will be processed and finalised, provided it is submitted by the due date of 31 December 2014.
