Exciting Science – and it’s happening right here in Adelaide!

“504 eager Science teachers and laboratory assistants from around Australia descended on Adelaide University for 3 days of sharing and learning. Presentations from excellent keynote speakers, experts in their field wowed us with the latest research happenings in science and technology.” Belinda Hawker described her experience at CONASTA 63 a national science education conference in Adelaide this year.

So an opportunity to be immersed in Science, and opportunities to enhance my teaching of it, seemed like an ideal way to spend three days of my July break. Did you know, for registration purposes professional learning can include a range of activities including professional reading, viewing and listening?

So if you’re not school or site-based, or find it hard to attend training face-to-face, this might be the answer for you. As long as you can reference your learning against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, the activity is contributing to your professional growth and is over and above the normal duties of a teacher (in other words – it’s not planning, preparation or programming), you can record it.
