Robust Registration

In registering teachers, we recognise those who are competent, capable professionals.
Our process to assess the fitness and propriety of teachers includes:
- conduct a national police history check
- obtain information to see if there are any substantiated harm claims from Families SA
- receive information about interstate teaching performance and disciplinary issues
- require an overseas criminal history checks for teachers who have resided overseas for 12 or more months continuously.
Monitoring is on-going. Teachers must self-report any criminal conviction and employers tell us of any dismissals or unprofessional conduct. What is more, allegations do not have to come only from a teacher or a teacher’s employer. We also investigate allegations from the public about the conduct of a registered teacher.
This is why we are satisfied that our registration processes are undertaken efficiently, thoroughly, and in a timely manner.
