New Board for Teachers

The newly nominated Teachers Registration Board will begin its three year term this month. The Board consists of 16 members, including an independent presiding member, a person representing the community and a legal practitioner all nominated by the Minister for Education and Child Development together with persons nominated by employers from the government and non-government sectors, teacher unions and universities of the state.

Members and their deputies are then appointed by His Excellency the Governor of South Australia. The composition of the Board reflects the key stakeholders in relation to the regulation of the teaching profession in South Australia. Read more about the new Board here.
Carmel Kerin has stepped aside from her role as the Presiding Member after 30 years of outstanding service to the Board and the teachers of South Australia. Although we will miss her wise counsel, we welcome Dr Jane Lomax-Smith as the new Presiding Member. Dr Lomax-Smith has a medical qualification and a PhD. She has worked as a clinical pathologist and has taught undergraduates and postgraduates in London, Boston and Adelaide. Having occupied several elected offices in Local and State Government she has chaired a review of university funding for the Commonwealth and is now, amongst other activities, the Chair of the South Australian Museum.
We look forward to working with the new Board as we continue to support and guide the teachers of South Australia.
