The Centre of Democracy
The most recent school excursion addition to the North Terrace precinct, the Centre of Democracy addresses curriculum areas of HASS, History, Civics and Citizenship. Explore the development of democracy in South Australia.
Located a short walk from Parliament House, at the Institute Building in the State Library of South Australia, the Centre of Democracy is an obvious extension program to a Parliament House school visit. Free entry but bookings are essential: Visit for more information.

Professional learning opportunities
Are you a new graduate teacher? Explore ways to enrich classroom practice and connect with the Australian Curriculum (HASS, Civics & Citizenship, and History) by immersing yourself in the learning programs offered by the Migration Museum, the Centre of Democracy, and the Parliament of South Australia. The 2018 Psychology Summer Conference is a one day intensive conference that allows science teachers to develop teaching methods and resources within the Psychology stream. The University of Adelaide offers the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults for people who are interested in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in Australia or overseas and wish to gain a qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Music and Fun is offering a day long workshop for early childhood educators interested in obtaining fresh ideas for their music programmes. DECD Teacher Leaders
If you are seeking to advance your career during 2018, DECD is offering professional development support to help you achieve national certification as lead or highly accomplished teachers.
Teachers who express interest in applying for national certification during Term 1 2018 will have the following benefits available to them:
  • the application fee of $650 will be waived
  • a professional development program will be offered
  • participants can ask to be matched with a nationally certified teacher as a mentor (priority will be given to participants in category 1-3 sites)
  • 2 funded release days will be allocated to each participant.
