Proof of Identity
The Teachers Registration Board of South Australia is committed to ensuring that the teaching profession is comprised of competent educators and fit and proper persons to have the care of children.
As part of our assessment process, the Board conducts Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks (NCCHC) through the National Police Checking Service (NPCS) of the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).
Effective 1 July 2018, the Board is obliged to comply with updated terms and conditions of the ACIC Agreement. Under these terms and conditions this requires:
- New applicants to establish their identity to the minimum standard for the purposes of registration.
- All currently registered teachers are required to establish their identity to the minimum standard for the purposes of renewal of registration and subsequently every ten years.

Applicants must provide certified copies of documentary evidence to prove their identity sufficient to satisfy the minimum requirements for a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. This is a requirement of the Board's arrangement with the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC). This must include one Commencement document to confirm your birth in Australia or arrival in Australia.
- one Commencement document to confirm your birth in Australia or arrival in Australia

- You are also required to include certified copies of all name changes (e.g. marriage certificate, decree nisi or deed poll). You will need additional documents to satisfy the Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check minimum identity requirements however, you may also use the above documents to meet part of those ID requirements.
