In proceedings before the Board, in particular Part 7 Inquiries and potential disciplinary action pursuant to sections 33 and 35 of the Act, witnesses may be required to attend and give evidence.

The Board is committed to ensuring that the welfare and best interests of all witnesses are attended to.

Generally, witnesses will present before a Sub-Committee of the Board where the respondent teacher may be present with or without representation (i.e. legal counsel, union representative or the like). Detailed information regarding the role of a witness can be found at Information Sheet - Witness Information.

On occasion, students and or other vulnerable witnesses may be required to attend a hearing of the Board and testify. The Board is committed to ensuring vulnerable witnesses have special measures available and providing practical support to minimise any potential embarrassment and/or distress – see the Board’s Vulnerable Witness Policy (to be published shortly).
