Why do I have to pay registration fees?

The Teachers Registration Board (TRB) is an Independent Statutory Authority established to regulate the teaching profession. The Board is funded through the collection of registration fees. It receives no funding from government.

Your registration fees support the work undertaken by the Board to serve the South Australian teaching profession and protect the best interests of learners in its care.

How are my fees calculated?

Under amendments to the Teachers Registration and Standards Act 2004, that applied from 1 July 2021, the period of registration is five years. There are three components to registration fees. All new and renewing teachers must pay the relevant application fee, the Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check fee, and at least one annual fee. You can choose to pay annual fees upfront at the time you apply for between one and five years. Paying multiple years upfront will avoid CPI increases for those future years.

Fees are subject to annual indexation in the Regulations. Indexation is calculated using the Australian Bureau of Statistics Consumer Price Index for Adelaide for the year ending 30 September in the previous calendar year, and applicable fee increases are rounded to the nearest dollar. Fees are indexed from 1 February every year.

The indexation for the year commencing 1 February 2023 provided an 11.1% increase from the base year of 2021.  The indexation for the year to commence 1 February 2024 will provide a 17.7% increase from the 2021 base year.

See the fee summary schedule below for specific fee details.

When do I pay my fees?

Fees must be paid before an application can be processed.

You can pay by Visa or MasterCard, whether the card is a credit card or debit card. Please note that the Card Verification Value (CVV) number is required. This is a security feature for these transactions. The CVV number is located on the back of your card and is the three-digit number to the right of the signature strip.

All applications are dealt with in a confidential manner by the Board. Your card and CVV numbers will be destroyed once your application has been processed.

If I withdraw my application, do I get my fees back?

If you decide to withdraw your application prior to registration being granted, or if your application for registration is unsuccessful, the annual fee/s may be refunded if the NCCHC has not been conducted.

An assessment of qualifications fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.
