The Teachers Registration Board is an independent statutory authority. It was established pursuant to the Teachers Registration and Standards Act 2004 and is subject to the Teachers Registration and Standards Regulations 2021.

Please note: The current Act has been amended and an updated version came into effect from 1 July 2021. Changes are outlined in the Teachers Registration and Standards (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill 2020, which was passed by Parliament in October 2020. Features of the Act that were not the focus of the Amendment Bill will remain the same. You can read more about these changes here.

New regulations, the Teachers Registration and Standards Regulations 2021, replaced the existing Regulations on 1 July 2021.

Freedom of Information

The Teachers Registration Board is a Statutory Authority regulating the teaching profession in South Australia. Members of the public can seek advice or express their views by email, facsimile, telephone or in person (by mutual arrangement).

The Agency holds documents relating to the general registration of teachers, assessment of qualifications and on fitness and propriety matters including consent forms for Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks.

Persons engaged in the administration of the Teachers Registration and Standards Act 2004 must adhere to the provisions stated in Section 53 of the Act in relation to the confidentiality of personal information.

Information sharing guidelines for promoting safety and wellbeing. (ISG)

The South Australian Ombudsman has developed the Information Sharing Guidelines for promoting safety and wellbeing (ISG). The ISG enables personal information to be shared without consent when it is believed a vulnerable person is at risk of harm (from others or as a result of their own actions). The Teachers Registration Board will seek informed consent in all situations where it is considered safe to do so. A copy of the ISG can be found at http://www.ombudsman.sa.gov.au/isg/.
